When Eugene V Debs led his class in spelling at Terre Haut's Old Seminary School, his teacher gave him a bible which read "Read and Obey" on the flyleaf. "I did neither", he remarked years later.

Kudos to Eugene. Probably much happier and more moral for ignoring the admonition.

I believed he ran for president 3 times (or was it 4) and was imprisoned for his left-wing beliefs.He was a Socialist Union organizer.

@fishline79 Very interesting.

@pixiedust Read Irving Stone's biography of Clarence Darrow. I think it's called "Clarence Darrow for the Defense." He defended Debs.

@pixiedust We seem to have a lot in common. I have suffered from Panic Attacks and ADHD (un-diagnosed when I was young), not to mention Acid Flashbacks and Anxiety! I have found that you must deal with these problems from within because nobody can help you. Here's a song for you from my latest CD....

@fishline79 I really like this song! Thank you for sharing. Made me a bit weepy, though, as it reminded me of an incident about 5 years ago. An impoverished man in a wheelchair near the local ice cream parlor. I looked at him and instantly thought, "There's someone no one has ever loved." I gave him a bowl of ice cream (he wasn't panhandling, it was just a very hot day) and the look on his face was as if I'd given him a bag of gold.

I also have a former friend who is former in large part because she frequently, staunch RC as she was, objected to me greeting "lesser" people in the mall or giving change to some of the panhandlers. I tried telling her that sometimes it only takes one mistake for a person to lose everything and it could happen at any time to anyone of us. I also tried telling her about how some people never really have a chance. She wasn't open to these ideas. Compassion was not her strong suit.

@pixiedust You know, Pix, as much as I dislike religion, every one of them has some value. I was raised in Christianity and as far back as I can remember I resented having to go to church every week but I learned some things in spite of myself. With Christianity, all anyone needs to take from it is that one simple tenet called the Golden ! All the rest is window dressing! Wouldn't everything be great if everyone believed and practiced that little ?!

@fishline79 I hear you! My favourite rule, too.

@pixiedust For some unknown reason, the posts I send all have words removed! Very strange and frustrating. They are all there when I send but the messages arrive with words missing! What's that about? I'm new to this website.

@fishline79 ??? I have no idea. Is there a pattern to which words disappear?
