My daughter told me earlier this evening that she’s pregnant with her second child. I tried to sound positive, and failed to offer any kind of congratulations.
I get that it’s not my place. But ffs, why are people still having kids. Am I the only one who thinks it’s irresponsible and selfish to bring a child into a world doomed by global warming!?!

You don’t have to be supportive about it. You sound like a negative Nancy. I would say focus on the time with your daughter and grand children. Focus on being present.

I never suggested it was selfish for her to be happy to be a mother!? However it is EXTREMELY selfish for it to be just about her!? What right does she have to bring a child into a dystopian future because it makes her “present” happy?!

I guess that very much depends on how convinced you are that the world is doomed by global warming.
The other day I was reading an article that said in Japan, typhoons are becoming more fierce and damage is becoming more severe every year because the temperature in the 'eye' is rising. So, a team of scientists and engineers have been trying to find a way to lower the temperature in the eye. So far, they have successfully sent an unmanned jet equipped with all sorts of devices like detectors right into the eye for analysis. The next step is to find a way to cool down the temperature of the eye - somehow. They don't know yet.
I would rather think positively, and aye, that's me all right.

You fail to grasp the big picture, or are in serious denial….
I read articles everyday regarding global warming. My first recollection of reading an article about global warming was in the mid 80s, and it’s every bit coming to bare.
They aren’t gonna drop shit to cool the hurricanes, they aren’t gonna stop sea level rise with some magic pill either. Neither are they going to be able to curb all the other extreme weather going on across the globe….
And rest assured all that we are seeing now is just the tip of the ice berg. You get back to me in 10 years and let me know if you’re so optimistic then!?

You state that science is all about details and facts. Well all those “details and facts” clearly show that we are already beyond the tipping point, and still continue to INCREASE green house gas emissions globally every day!?

Every small step counts to make a big change. Let's see what technology Japan (and all the other countries for that matter) can come up with that the rest of the world could share to tackle the global warming.
@Ryo1 Not omnipresent, but I read a fuck of a lot. And I tend to believe what I see with my own eyes. And I’m not seeing shit that’s curbing global warming in ANY WAY!
If you choose to believe in these hocus pocus band aid fixes for global warming, that’s your choice. But please don’t insult my intelligence for believing what I’ve been reading for 40 years and stating it.
