Today is the birthday of a friend of mine who died in November at the age of 46. He was not a god believer, but some people are posting things on his page like "he's in heaven now" and "we'll see you soon". Pisses me off a little bit, and I'd like to set them straight, but I know it's not worth it. Anyway, just venting. Thanks.

When my (strong atheist) husband died, I was hurt and angered by all the talk of heaven, God, and angels- especially when it came from people who KNEW we were both heathens. We were married in the forest in a loosely Buddhist ceremony FFS. I had to remind myself that this was all they understand. Eventually, it comforted me to know these people didn't know him like I did.

You're right: it's not worth it. I can understand your anger, though.

They can't help themselves. You're right that it isn't worth it. They need to feel that there is something else and anything different scares them.
