Meant to share these last night, but got busy with something else and forgot....an Armadillo is a familiar sight for me (since l live in Texas), but l know it might be a first for others. I'm fortunate to live in the country and to be surrounded by wildlife, so it's important that l share my good fortune with others!? (Sorry some are a little blurry...the rascal kept moving!)
Nice. I've only seen (and smelt) dead ones hitherto.
Plenty of dead ones on the road for sure....?
He's adorable (or she)!
Are they aggressive?
I've never 'sexed' an Armadillo before, so no idea! They've very bashful/timid creatures and will run when they see you...
It's not recommended that you touch or handle them though, because they are known to carry the virus that causes Leprosy...?
@Free_2B_Me Whaaaaa??
But they look like lovely little critters that need some love.
(But I'll pass... don't want Leprosy!)
@Free_2B_Me Leprosy is barely contagious. I think you need prolonged contact over quite a period of time. And it's curable (at least until bits have dropped off).
@Gareth l don't know if any of that is true or not...but why take the chance? I felt it was important to provide the warning simply because another person thought they were 'cuddly' animals. Just because a tetanus shot exits, l wouldn't knowingly step on a rusty nail...?
Wr have those here...i see them heading back to a clump of woods on the side of my house.
I am also from Texas (Dallass) and am familiar with these creatures. Horse Apples is another thing we grew up with and my mother would make it a habit of running over them to hear them splat (she had a funny sense of humor).
