Faith restored!
Not that faith, my faith in humanity.
Last year I got a better car and had to figure out what to do with a decade and a half old Mini with a stick (manual gearbox). I offered it for free to my friends on FB. A friend took it as he was waiting for a car that was ordered but hadn't arrived. He's about 5'2" and well into his 70s but at least knew how to manage all three pedals and looked good in it. I thought nothing more of it. His girlfriend's friend needed a car and he sold it for $1000 recently. SHe is also a member of the Gray Hair Tribe and was wary of shifting but managed to pick it back up from doing it decades ago. She got a needed car, my friend made space in his garage and all were happy.
As some of you may know I lost most of my possessions in the first 2021 hurricane. I am managing but bleeding cash. My friend showed up and gave me that $1000 though he was not obligated in any way to do so and wasn't aware of my situation.
My faith in humanity has increased a bit. Keep the good ones in your life.
What a great story! There ARE people who give in to the urge to do the right thing! Taking something for nothing from a friend and then selling it for a profit would nag at my conscience, so your friend did right by you. You've got a great friend!
He actually did two great things. He could have gotten more money for the car on the open market (and kept it), the woman that bought it is on a fixed income and got a great deal. All of us benefitted which is a rarity in our culture.
