My sons were brought up believing what they wanted to but always came to me for answers. I was the parent with whom they lived and I did not force them to go to church as their mother - at times when she was around - did-. Today they are adults and we all three have a good scientific understanding of life as atheist.

Stands to reason, really. Religions came about because as a species we were ignorant. (Childlike). We had questions, but no one to give us any answers, so we made up ones that seemed believable to us, just as kids do if left alone. (Monsters under the bed). Thankfully most of us have evolved, and have gained an understanding to many of the mysteries. So, we are now at the point that raising children by telling them the truth, religion is no longer needed.

I adhere to dialectical materialism...WHOA, hold on! What's with the fancy words? Actually, if you'll bear with me for just a moment, you'll find they're not so fancy after all. Dialectics just means 'scientific' and 'materialism' just means 'of the real, material (not spiritual, magic, imagined) world' i.e.an atheistic world outlook, based on facts not fiction, that I think we share on this site. Thunder is not 'God moving his furniture about.' it's the noise created by the percussion of an atmospheric electrical discharge; neither is some poor soul, thrashing about and foaming at the mouth, 'possessed by demons' - they are having a severe epileptic fit. Religion confounds (but calms primitive minds) whereas science explains and satisfies intellectual curiosity. Communists uphold dialectical materialism - that's why I'm a communist. - but YOU don't have to be, if you choose not - my best wishes to all.

Unfortunately I was taught early on that morality came from religion. History belies that. Good for you and your sons.
