I know this isn’t a political site, but I’m curious to see what other irreligious people think of modern politics; have modern-day liberals become authoritarian/fascists? It seems like liberalism no longer means what it used to mean especially on college campuses (including mine). Liberals used to be the receptive party with sensibility. Now they’re the party that marginalizes, defames, and antagonizes anyone who doesn’t agree with them especially if you’re a straight white male. And god forbid (lol) if you support our president, or if you’re merely a sympathizer. You’re deemed a racist bigot without any discourse having occurred. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not fond of our president, but viewing over 60 million of our fellow Americans as rascist bigots is pretty bigoted.

Short answer: no. The party of authoritarian fascism is the REPUBLICAN Party. And anyone who voted for Trump excused his racism, his misogyny, and the fact that he's about the worst person ever to walk the Earth, short of a genocidal maniac.

The liberals as does the conservatives both have their nuts! What is important is that both take care to ignore these radicals for what they are. This is not easy because they with their agenda"s seem to catch the limelight and paint both factions with their radical ideas. What is lacking today in our politics is compromise and doing what is good for the nation in lieu of the party. The ultra wings of both factions have obtained to much power and have not been quelled. This may sound like censorship but rather it is common sense.

I think there is an authoritarian movement within the liberal wing. Hopefully, they remain a small portion of the wing. Liberalism and authoritarianism are not compatible.

It's partly true but not completely true. I think it's an issue we need to be wary of. but I still feel liberals have been viewed so harshly that some of what your seeing is a negative response to that. I also think that your support of Trump (which you have your right to no matter how distasteful I think that is) may also be an immature response from the kids on campus. Keep this in mind (and this is just an opinion I have, I'm not claiming it's a fact), too many of us, including myself, we view Trump as the poster child for corruption and intolerance. He's incompetent and unworthy to hold office. Now here is my point. Look at all the hate I just spewed there and trust me it's just the tip of the iceberg for me. My hate is a reflection of your fellow liberals on campus and if you're supporting Trump then that hate and intolerance is perceived by you for exactly what it is. Hate and intolerance, it's just you're on the receiving end of it. Hate and intolerance isn't a bad thing as long as it's directed at change and not violence. I hate and have zero tolerance for baby rape and I doubt anyone would say that's evil of me. I feel the same way towards Trump and my reasons are as valid in my opinion as my views on baby rape.

To be clear, I don’t support Trump. I have merely decided to be an adult and accept my president. I will not disenfranchise my fellow Americans nor will I disrespect our democracy. Also, if you view Trump as a poster child for corruption and intolerance, how do you view Hillary? A person who has a long record of deception and manipulation. Not to mention the fact that she and her husband were against certain gay rights not so long ago. And the fact that she partnered with Saudi Arabia for donations, a country where gays (like myself) are killed and where women are inhumanely oppressed. Her foundation has also been linked to fraud and deception. The list goes on. Trump is no paragon of good, but at least he us upfront and honest about his views. If you didn’t support Hillary, then I say we were screwed either way.

The point of my reply was not intended to be a challenge. I'm sorry if it came off that way. I'm not interested in attacking you, I'm passionate about my dislike for Trump and I don't think what the right said about Hillary is 100% true or even 50% true. I think they did a great job of smearing her and I feel like many of us don't take the time to fact check these things (INCLUDING ME) I'm not innocent and I think some of the things I believe about Trump may not be true. So please accept my apology if the way I spoke about the subject was insensitive. I respect our democracy too, and part of that respect is the right to say things that can be offensive to those that disagree. In this case that wasn't what I thought I was doing.
