Today I learned that a complete rainbow (total circle) is called a "glory" and apparently a double glory was seen over the Waimea Canyon on Kauai this afternoon. A helicopter crew for the Department of Land and Natural Resources caught it as they were flying over the canyon. Sadly, I'm not sure they were able to capture the bottom arc of the "glory" but I'll take their word for it that it was there!

I've been following it closely and playing trap the mouse for pleasure, so this is a good way to spend my time.

Should not really be that uncommon for aviators, where you can see a complete set of rain falling through both angles of refraction before it hits the ground. But quite rare from the ground.
