The Increase In Energy Prices

The Price Of Energy

A few months ago I read the Germany imports/imported 55% of its energy needs from Russia, however, at the time their energy bills only increased by 23%. It was then that I checked the UK government website, Department of Energy and it clearly stated that we import less than 4% of our energy needs from abroad, since that time the figure has risen to 5.6% in terms of energy import. Clearly, the sky rocketing prices of energy have nothing to do with the current conflict in the Ukraine when compared with the energy prices in Germany. I believe that the current outrageous increase in energy prices is a way of clawing back the cost of the pandemic.

Under the current government they are using the law to intimidate people with the threat of damaging their credit rating for not paying their energy bills, basically, this is legalized theft. The vast majority of share holders in British Gas/Centrica do not live on council estates and are largely unaffected by the outrageous increase in energy prices and happily collect their bi-annual dividends while the poorst section of society pick up the costs of the panedemic.

When I left Germany, in 1989, Germany was starting to initiate a deal with Russia over importing gas. Even back then it was met with a lot of controversy. Even though Germany (and several European countries) have a negative population growth rate they still bring in lots of outsiders. When the wall fell, even more, Germans joined the ranks. Germany is the size of WA and Oregon but has some 85 million people. When we refuse to understand the impact of human numbers and activity (especially in a wealth country like German) we fail to see the bigger picture.

I think the industry uses any excuse to charge more. They seek increases every year whether they are justified or not. This year they used the supply chain for to the Russian invasion to lobby rises in utilities. Public Utility Commissions granted them and everybody is paying more.
