Are you asking? This has been a big topic with me for years and finally things are becoming clear. Here, most simply want to take a pill (called a proton pump) and are toooo lazy to learn any life changes strategies to alleviate this issue. When the meds. have side affects, people want to get another pill to alleviate the first pills side affects and on and on. Some other things one can do is to chew gum (my doctor mentioned this). Try to avoid any gum with a lot of sugar especially artificial sweeteners. One brand I get is called 'Simply Gum.' One biggie is that not all 'Heartburn (GERD) is caused by stomach acid but what is known as Eosinophils reacting to a food that does not agree with you.

"Eosinophilic esophagitis (e-o-sin-o-FILL-ik uh-sof-uh-JIE-tis) is a chronic immune system disease. With this disease, a type of white blood cell, called an eosinophil, builds up in the lining of the tube that connects your mouth to your stomach. This tube is also called the esophagus. This buildup, which is a reaction to foods, allergens or acid reflux, can inflame or injure the esophageal tissue. Damaged esophageal tissue can lead to difficulty swallowing or cause food to get stuck when you swallow."

No, not asking just found some alternative help for it.

@Jolanta This is a big topic and I'm sure not just here but everywhere. Doctors are quick to prescribe pills (as that is what most people want). However, those meds. always have side effects. A lot of alternatives can and do work. What alternative, may I ask, have you found?

@jackjr I have not much problems with heartburn but thought that others who do may benefit from this.

@Jolanta One thing I have learned, and it only took me some 20 years to do so, is not all heart burns are the same. Doctors often say it is caused by stomach acids getting into the esophagus and causing certain cells to change. However, another cause may not be due to acids but a reaction of the body to certain foods. This form is known as Eosinophilic Esophagitis (a mouth full).
"Eosinophilic esophagitis is an allergic condition that happens in the esophagus. The esophagus becomes inflamed and does not contract properly. It can get narrowed and develop rings or abscesses. The symptoms happen when your immune system makes white blood cells in reaction to an allergen. The white blood cells are called eosinophils."

"EoE is caused by an allergic reaction to certain foods or environmental allergens."

"The condition is called eosinophilic esophagitis, or EE or EoE. It can happen at any age and is commonly seen in white males." [hopkinsmedicine.org]

The biggest problem is that a misdiagnosis will mean a prescription for what is known as a proton pump inhibitor (Prilosec) which can create problems of it's own. For one it becomes an addictive drug and is hard to get away from.
