I was diagnosed as diabetic last December. I weighed in at 307 lbs and had an A1c of 10.7. I have been on multiple blood pressure medications for about 15 years and was prescribed two medications for the diabetes - luckily no insulin. After much research, at the beginning of February, I began a low carb, adequate protein, fat (LCHF) way of eating. By my first follow-up appointment (about 7 weeks after I started), my A1c had dropped to 5.7. I have never before seen a doctor actually be giddy when talking to me. He opened the door and before even saying "hello", he blurted out "Your A1c is amazing!!!". The rest of the appointment was him just being super bubbly about the progress I had made.

There has been an amazing difference in my overall health. As of this morning, I have lost just over 70 lbs. I had my latest follow up blood work for my A1c and it is now 5.5 - NORMAL!!!! I am now controlling my diabetes through diet alone, no more medications. About 1/2 of the mornings now, my fasting blood is below 100 - again NORMAL. The rest are below 110. I have also started to need less blood pressure medications. And my vision has improved. (As evidenced by needing to spend $350 on new glasses after my optometrist appointment). I swear that even after picking up my new glasses, that my vision is continuing to improve.

I have soooo much more energy now, that I my body literally feels called into being in action. At the beginning of June walking from my office to the back of the shop at work (about 120 feet), I would get winded. I started walking and now walk over 4 miles every morning. I have set a goal of running a 5k by the end of September.

This has been my experience with a low-carb, fat way of eating. For me it has propelled me to the best health I have been in since -school (49 now). Others may have different experiences, but this has been mine. Take care and be well.

I believe in eating a wide variety of foods in moderation.

When it comes to fat, fat free foods with hydrogenated oils are actually much worse (cause greater health issues) than the saturated fats.

Just eat a wide variety of non-processed foods, Get regular exercise (moderate is fine), and you will be healthier than the average American.

It depends on the type of fats. Obviously animal fats and transfats are not good. But things like olive oil, flaxseed oil, nuts, avocados, fish, etc., are good for you. And carbs are only good if they're complex carbs and eaten in moderation.

I eat a high fat diet with as few carbs as possible. Keeps me slim. As soon as I start eating any wheat, corn, sugar my body gains weight. This is more like the Atkins/Keto/Bulletproof Diet. High protein, salads, and heavy cream! Most veggies are fine, but NO potatoes!

Evidence appears to suggest it is where the body stores fat that is the key. Generally speaking someone with a larger tummy should avoid carbs, larger buttocks and thighs avoid fat. However you cannot go wrong if you eat a balanced diet, exercise for 150 mins a week and drink plenty of water.

I think that high quality fats such as extra virgin coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, and avocado are generally good for most people. Overall quality of food, and exercise are also very important.

Yep, I agree. It works for me!
