There's a lot of national debates going on over you-know-what in the UK. How are they unfolding in your countries right now?

I had a few things to say about the BBC and Hamas on BBC Politics Live - Matt Goodwin

(When Matt Goodwin says 'idiots' , here is referring to the main organiser of the weekend’s protests in London who refuses to condemn activists who wore paraglider badges, glorifying Hamas terrorism.)

Matthew James Goodwin (born December 1981)[1] is a British academic who is professor of politics in the School of Politics and International Relations at the University of Kent.

I watched the entire programme yesterday, including the full interviews with both representatives - from the Jewish community, and from the group supporting the Palestinians. The representative from the Palestinian cause was repeatedly interrupted and had to constantly ask to be allowed to finish his point without interruption..that is why his interview seemed to be given more time than that of the Jewish representative, who was allowed to speak uninterrupted. I think Matt Goodwin showed his inherent pro Israel bias and contempt for any other viewpoint than that of complete backing for Israel. Of course the guy representing the Palestinians should have immediately and unequivocally condemned anyone at the rally who displayed the paraglider badges, but too much was made of the fact that two were spotted amongst a crowd of thousands. We need to get proportionality and perspective into these debates and not go looking for the minutiae to make a big point out of, because it only sows division at a time when what we need are clear heads to calm the situation, not rallying calls for one side to bash the other with. The last thing we need in the UK or anywhere else is a rise in Islamophobia and Antisemitism.

The media, including the BBC, are so not helpful in calming down the situation. Plus, those morons demonstrating on streets... useful idiots...
We really don't want political polarisation in the UK like in the US.

@Ryo1 Mainstream media does seem to be focusing on one side of this historically long issue. I think the street marches in support of either side is good, as long as they maintain a civil attitude. Maybe that is too optimistic. Suella Braverman commenting that pro-Palestinian marchers should be arrested is a horrible idea. Amongst people, the last 10 days has shown that many do not view this as simply a horrible Hamas act, that there is a long history and that one side has by far suffered the worst. Watching the AlJezeera English service online has been fascinating, and their reporting is less "hair on fire".

@Switchcraft
People are entitled to their opinions and free speech, The right to protest is protected by law anyway. That said, on this occasion, the clash between the pro-Palestine and pro-Israel protesters generated so much hate that several Jewish schools had to be closed in London last weekend, and Jewish children have been advised to disguise their school uniforms so as not to become targets of hate crimes. The police made it clear that protesting for Palestine is within the legal right, but those who display any signs and symbols that represent Hamas, like paraglider images, will be dealt with as supporters of terrorism. Protests are also often hijacked by those with political agendas. They are manipulative individuals. To them, protesters, especially naive uni students, are useful idiots.
I hardly watch any news by the BBC nowadays. There is a huge question mark on the impartiality of the national broadcaster. AL Jezeera is not bad. I also watch DW News. Comprehensive and balanced.
