Over the weekend Australia held a referendum which failed to pass.
The referendum proposed that a permanent body be formed, to be enshrined in our constitution, that would allow our indigenous population to have direct access to our parliament so that their concerns may be heard directly, without all the red tape. An acknowledgement in our indigenous population's special status amongst our general population as the first inhabitants. First inhabitants which still suffer discrimination to this day.
The reason I am writing this is because if any country needs special legislation to protect indigenous inhabitants it is Israel.

I guess you don't know the make-up of Israel's parliment, the knesset...There have been Israeli Arab members of the Knesset ever since the first Knesset elections in 1949. The following is a list of the 100 past and present members. Some Israeli Druze dispute the label "Arab" and consider Druze to be a separate ethnic group. However, as they speak Arabic as their first language they are still included in this list. I'll leave the rest of the research to you. Nice try though

I'm only talking residents of former Palestine. Yes, some are Hamas terrorists but saying that, have you witnessed how some Jewish settlers act? Agitators both sides.
Israel is the Jewish state which means it is a Theist state; like the Vatican, Iran and Saudi Arabia. They, Zionists, claim ownership from 3-6000 years ago using the Goat Herders Guide to the Galaxy as justification for their claim. A secular state allowed all beliefs to co-exist without allowing one to dominate which means in the ME you have to suppress extreme belief sets. Good examples of secular Arab societies where minorities are (were) allowed to co-exist are Syria and Libya. Even Saddam's Iraq. Palestine was secular, so realistically was Afghanistan during communist rule.
What Zionists don't understand is a country is not a kibbutz imo as that is how they treat the land mass we call Israel.

@puff tell me one instance when members of a kibbutz or any settlers as you call them on their own land, fired Rockets into Gaza?

@lerlo Does cutting down orchards count? Some settlers are known for violence against Palestinians. The state military, IDF, do it a plenty.

@puff " some settlers are known for violence" vs. Hamas whose purpose is to drive Israel into the sea. Which one would you say is worse? I also noticed that you couldn't mention anytime that any settler sent a rocket into Gaza. Wonder why that is? Nice try. P.S. Israeli Rockets are done in retaliation

@lerlo Rockets are not all's weapon of choice. What's the excuse for Syria? West Bank?
A few years ago the Israeli's assassinated someone they disliked in a third country using an Australian passport as cover, connecting all Australians to this deed. Israel has little sympathy from me as it is as an Aussie, let alone condone what they do in Gaza now.

@puff Is it your inability to read that is responsible for your failure to answer a question? tell me one instance when members of a kibbutz or any settlers as you call them on their own land, fired Rockets into Gaza? Then tell me how rockets and slaughter of completely innocent people by Hamas is justified under Aussie standards

@lerlo ffs rockets are not settlers weapon of choice as they can purchase professionally made ones.
International law: Countries have the right to defend themselves. Also international law if occupied by foreign forces you have the right to resist. The actions undertaken by Hamas on Oct 7th are unjustifiable, said that before. But that does not mean I cannot deduce and understand motivation. Understanding does not mean I condone.
Perhaps you can tell me how many slaughtered in Gaza through collective punishment (war crime) is justified?
For Australian standards, please refer to uncle Sam who dictates our foreign policy.
For me? Israel is a theist state that ignores UN calls for a Palestinian state and continues to dispossess them of more and more land whilst suppressing the actual human population. Hopefully this conflict finally gets the Palestinians a state that will not be retarded by Israel eg A real shame Israel bombed the international airport in Gaza and closed their port years ago.
If Israel wants sympathy, stop collective punishment which ironically is happening to Jewish communities around the world now because of Israeli actions.

@puff wow. Israel kept a Palestinian state from happening right? Not Hamas who's sole goal is to drive Israel into the sea. Sound like a partner you can negotiate with?

@lerlo Both sides have torpedoed talks starting with the PLO regarding creating a Palestinian state.
What is the goal of Israel atm? Because I dare say for many Palestinians in Gaza, it seems like an attempt to drive them "into the sea".
Hamas was nurtured by Israel to 1) Weaken the PLO and 2) Drive a wedge between Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. A good analogy is a producer with a boy band; probably wouldn't have gained traction without this help.

Red tape is good

There are 2 million Arabs in Israel living as citizens will all the rights Jewish citizens have. There Arab parties, and they were even part of the government before the return of Netanyahu.

BTW there are no "first nations" in this part of the world, like in Australia or America. This corner of the world has always been at the crossroads of migrations, with many tribes and peoples living there. Jews and Arabs are only two of them.
To compare Australia with Palestine is based on ignorance

OK point taken but lets focus on Gaza, where the action originated. Let's just call Palestinians there "generational inhabitants that were forcibly dispossessed of their land" then, rather than "Indigenous". The outcome is somewhat similar to those affected.

There must be a better solution than the enclaves that exist now. One good thing I remember Bill Clinton saying as potus is that Jerusalem and surrounds should be the world's first international territory/ state ie no-one owns it. No one religious group controls it. All three stoogy Abrahamic religions "whoop whoop whooped" and hated the idea which is why I thought it was a good one.

@puff they weren't forcibly dispossessed. They left assuming that the Arabs were going to win the war. They guessed wrong. Ever heard of a country that won land in a war that had to give it back? Please tell me when it happened
