I lived in downtown Kent, in 2 places actually, as a kid and watched as bus loads of police in riot gear marched towards the center of town past my home. We lived a block from the police station at that time. The second home was right next to a large parking lot where the buses pulled in. A small city under siege.

I got my second college degree from the Univerity of Akron and still remember thinking of those things and giving a drive around Kent St. while doing that.

I was in the Ohio National Guard at that time and we were sent out right after Kent State to other universities carrying weapons but no ammunition. I was upset by Kent State and even more upset that we had to carry weapons period. It was a screwed up time for the military.
