The celebration of Christmas on December 25th was taken from the holiday Yule, celebrated by the Germanic people when Christianity forced its way across Europe. In fact, most of the traditions of Christmas come from Yule.

Yep. I remember years ago, having religious relatives visit after I'd decorated my holiday tree. My religious sister in law said it made her want to "puke" that I called my tree a "holiday tree" rather than a "Christmas tree." So, I told her I was trying to be inclusive for her, because it was actually my "Solstice Tree'" decorated for the reason for the season, prior to the Christians converting the pagans by way of the sword. She also objected to the fact that my tree was a palm tree... So I asked how many Douglas Fir trees grew in Bethlehem the year Jesus was believed to be born? And what kind of tree would he have decorated for his birthday? That was the last I saw of her for 20 years, haha!
