Christian teachings warn against worshiping false idols. But aren't they in fact doing something similar when they worship Jesus Christ?Should we not avoid idolizing anyone or anything in our lives?

The whole worshipping thing doesnt resonate with me for anything. And requiring one to worship them seems ungodly and more personality disorder...narcissistic comes to mind.

@sloryd yep. Demands to be worshipprd, gets even if not, is the best and all antyone needs... Yep it is a match

So that Vatican image of Christ hanging on the cross for fifteen hundred years is it not an idol of worship? Because it is man made, and it is fake as persons of that location and place were not so white, not long-haired, not anything like that image. It was commissioned and paid for. Ain't it time for Christ to come down from there? It is as stated, a graven image. And then that fat-ass pope. As Lao Tzu says it is better to do nothing than be busy at doing nothing. Another image to which they bow. A marketing image. Yes the Vatican has a marketing team along with accountants, and make-up artists, and fashion designers. Meanwhile their vaults are filled to the brim not only with gold and silver, but priceless artifacts. Yet they do not sell them off to feed the starving. But God, they sure do pray for God to feed them. Why not sell some of that stuff and feed them yourself. As a friend of mine once said from a biblical quotation, if you have faith the size of a grain of mustard seed, you can say to that mountain be moved. And it will be moved. But he added, don't forget to bring your pick and shovel.

It's about graven images not false idols. A graven image is anything that is graved (it is a word in the dictionary). This includes pictures, crosses, statues -- anything man-made. Moses (or god, if you will) put down this law as it causes people to band together in a nationalistic group. This is like wearing a chip on one's shoulder -- sooner or later. People need their graven images though -- they are unhappy without banding together by graven images. The Jew (or Hebrew) people, after a few decades, decided that using bark off of a tree is not a graven image so used that.

Second Commandment.
“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them nor serve them”

I think all the corpses hanging from crosses around peoples necks, hanging from walls and tattooed into skin could count as a graven images.

In modern society you can look around as see many many false idols that people worship or revere. Stars of stage and screen for example. Like the fkin worthless Kardashians and other reality TV rubbish. You only have to look at that piece of human garbage that made over a million by being human detritous on TV an uttering the words "Cash me ouside how bout dat?" WTF!!!

I do not concern myself with religious nonsense of any kind, unless they attempt to control my life. Then I send $$ to the ACLU, contact my MoC's, March. Etc etc etc

Yes this is why the protestants dreamed up modern Trinitarian ism and why the Catholics rewrote the Ten Commandments and took out the one about worshiping idols.

New improved churchifying folks with added platitudinousness

Yes exactly. People should worship higher forms of human thought. I believe this was what Jesus, his original followers and other types of Gnostics were actually trying to say. The Christ Spirit (symbolism) was an early attempt to explain that whatever God is, it exists within each individual. Today we know that this higher consciousness (modern terminology), is just our pre frontal cortex. Whatever, we should at least value highly(if not worship) the human intellect, and place less value on base instinctual behavior.
