We used to sing the Magpie song

1 for sorrow
2 for Joy
3 for a girl child
4 for a boy
5 for silver
6 for gold
7 for a secret never to be told.

where are you from? I love that song

@Corvislover It is the one used in the UK. I learned three more too.
8 is a wish,
9 is a kiss,
10 is a bird you must not miss.

But I also once found a very old country version, dating perhaps from the days before contraception and family planning, where seven maybe even more sinister than your witch, or Len's secret. It went. "Seven is a baby, buried in the wood."

@Corvislover
It was the theme tune to a TV magazine programme for children in the UK durring the 1970s
@Fernapple thanks I had forgotten the last bit on the end titles

@LenHazell53 How cool are the brits!

@Corvislover Thank you. We do our best, without really trying.
