SOS Silence of Suicide

The happiest of faces can mask the darkest feelings.

A few years ago, a good colleague of mine committed suicide. Nobody knew that she was suffering from severe depression. The day before she killed herself, she and I had a coffee break together. She was laughing, making jokes, telling funny stories etc., etc. Now I know she was a good actor when it came to hiding her problems.
I still remember that her husband, who had kept the promise with her not to tell anyone about her problems for many years, said angrily 'Enough is enough! For heaven's sakes, don't hide it if you suffer from depression. Don't be ashamed. Don't be afraid. Talk to someone. Ask for help.'
