@Jolanta I don't see Russia as expansionist. Nor do I see China, Tibet being the obvious disgusting exception. Russia, Russia 2024 not the USSR, was never and still is not going to expand East. They won't even take all of Ukraine. The problem is NATO. fair enough that Finland want to join NATO. But what does NATO immediately do once Finland join? Militarise the border with Russia as they always do with new member border countries.. Wonder why Russia has always been against Ukraine joining?

What is the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, NATO, anyway?

It's a security organisation to help ensure peace and avoid conflict. A good idea to stop member countries from being attacked but more importantly, stopped those member countries from fighting each other. It's Europe after all .
The USSR and the Cold war justified the arms race but once that was over, it should have gone back to it's original charter ie defend each other against attacks.
The USSR fell but instead of disarming, NATO started becoming active overseas, destroying Libya along the way which was no threat to NATO members in anyway. In fact, Libya's failure as a state directly because of the NATO "intervention" has threatened NATO members, through unplanned migration.
So why is this defense organisation, NATO, picking a fight with a nation state in Russia? A state has security concerns and all it wants is neutrality, whereas the organisation desires greater strategic advantage as it expands. That is Ukraine, just a tactical move by NATO in letting them join but a new threat of missiles on the border for Russia. An organisations tactical play is more important than a nation states very legitimate security concerns, Black Sea fleet and Ocean access you see. Look at a map
We have war because NATO can not accept neutrality in Ukraine. Russia invaded because diplomatic overtures were ignored by NATO countries, everyone. Eventual talks had to be forced. There was peace where Ukraine remained Ukraine, just couldn't join NATO, in April 2022. Zelenskyy rejected it. Half a million dead now and Zelenskyy's gamble NATO support would ensure victory seems badly but predictably misguided. The US have always been fair weather friends, Zelenskyy should have known they would cut and run.

I don't like NATO at all. Haven't since Libya. NATO causes misery.
