Actually it is the FOX opinion shows that are stupid, not their news. The same is true of MSNBC. Perhaps one day even critical comments will be made.

At least MSNBC shows are based on actual facts and events. On Fox they often just make stuff up.

@snytiger6 Not really, BOTH MSNBC and FOX misrepresent events. Remember the NBC/MSNBC news regarding "Russia collusion". That is just one example, but a glaring example. I hate Trump as much as anyone, but I still see BOTH FOX and MSNBC presenting "news" so slanted it smells.

@Alienbeing The collusion story was carried by many news sources. It was based on the fact that Russia and the Trump campaign both ran very similar propaganda at the same time. As it turned out, it could not be proved that there was any actual coordination, but it was clear that Russia was trying to and did help get Trump elected in 2016. Quite honestly, I think the Russians wanted to damage the U.S. by getting Trump elected, but didn't want to actually have to deal with Trump or his people. So, they ran a parallel campaign of propaganda, which on the surface really did look like collusion.

@snytiger6 Wehn I said "BOTH networks" I should have said ALL networks, because ALL networks slant their stories or avoid them althgether. The fact is FOX is no more prone to slanting news and opinion than is MSNBC and ALL other networks.

@Alienbeing I think perhaps news seems slanted, but some networks "slant" a lot more than others.

I think news started to go downhill when Reagan ended "The Fairness Doctrine". That also opened the door for formats like right wing talk radio, because they no longer had to air opposing viewpoints. Without the fairness doctrine in place, news organizations also stopped worrying about getting things right, and so they didn't put much effort into fact checking their stories. Today, Fox News doesn't employ any fact checkers at all. MSNBC still does. As news organizations started to drop fact checkers, other news organization had to cut costs to "keep competitive" and so they cut investigative reporting. So, we wont' be ssing a story like "The Pentagon Papers" or "Watergate" any time in the near future.

Because of all the above, the public is generally less informed, and they find that traditional news sources aren't always good sources of information anymore.

So, I can understand why you condemn all networks. However, I don't believe they are equally bad, as some are less responsible about fact checking and reporting the actual truth than others.

@snytiger6 I think you confuse FOX opinion shows (which is most of what they broadcast) with their actual news. FOX opinion shows are full of very slanted and at times actually incorrect statements. I don't think the same is true of their actual news broadcasts.

MSNBC may employ fact checkers, and if they do, they don't do any better than FOX. As with FOX, most of MSNBC broadcasts are opinion shows, not news. I suspect you being kind to some networks is influenced by your political beliefs, not actual fact. As you mentioned I do think ALL networks slant, and in many cases heavily slant news.

I also think BOTH major political parties are not anywhere near truthful, and bsically don't serve us. If Trump & Biden is the best they can find, they aren't looking very hard.
