Coates talks about his life, his small celebrity and contrasts it with the celebrity of Michael Jackson and Kanye West.
"It is often easier to choose the path of self-destruction when you don’t consider who you are taking along for the ride, to die drunk in the street if you experience the deprivation as your own, and not the deprivation of family, friends, and community. And maybe this, too, is naive, but I wonder how different his life might have been if Michael Jackson knew how much his truly black face was tied to all of our black faces, if he knew that when he destroyed himself, he was destroying part of us, too. I wonder if his life would have been different, would have been longer. And so for Kanye West, I wonder what he might be, if he could find himself back into connection, back to that place where he sought not a disconnected freedom of “I,” but a black freedom that called him back—back to the bone and drum, back to Chicago, back to Home."

correct me when I'm wrong I know u saying that Coates opinion. so what that Kanye on road for self destruction or as race traitor who knows I'm not even sure myself that his fighting for own kind just being a Trojan Horse( reread ur history u kno exactly where I'm at) in the white Community black hacker the virus that kills the light slowly. this land was our first so get lost. Granted I may not not the man personally like I grew up around him since day 1 goddamnit I don't give a because I'm indifferent and secondly I dress white(goth-wise). Kanye can go back Egypt let alone Africa for all I care. Maybe Ye is a clone or done some serious shock therapy again who knows I'm not even sure myself

@Blakadow Personally I think Kanye is his own man, his own self promoter. He also came out in favor of Emma Gonzales, one of the students that survived the Parkland shootings. She has been a staunch support of gun controls. So Kanye is picking up some very contrasting positions that are placing him high on the news cycle and of course he has a new album cumming out.
