I attended my first town council meeting last night, and it was a doozy! We just had town elections and this is the last meeting of this council. They were presenting the budget for next year. It lasted over 3 hours, involved a closed session, and had a very raucous discussion regarding their cut to the library's funding. Resident after resident got up and spoke up in support of restoring the funding. I was due to speak, but the mayor ended summarily ended the comments after she deemed the issue was taking up too much of the council's time. So I (and others I know) are making appointments to talk to the incoming council members-ALL OF THEM-about the library funding. Abingdon feels strongly about this.
