As I've said before, religion will not fizzle out until more people than not trust in science to find answers to the "unknown". People use religion to explain the mysticism of what is yet to be understood.It's been that way since the beginning of time. it makes people feel knowledgeable and safeeven if it's a falsehood

It's a really good question. I'd like to think that we'll evolve past , but my experience with humanity is most people long to have their decisions made for them and fear of death is a driving force for most people. Churches are not ever going to stop encouraging their congregations to have large families- more bodies in the pews and dollars in the coffer- those are strong survival advantages. I think poor, uneducated people with miserable lives will always cling to , because it gets them out of bed in the morning.

When I look at many of the world's religions, I see them splintering into smaller and smaller groups. Christianity has over 50 versions of it's holy text. The law of diminished returns -- eventually it will fade, but not for a great, great while. We still have to overcome our fears.
