I can't get over how ignorant some Christians can be. Got into a fight with a woman on Facebook over the fact that Santa, Christmas trees and giving presents have nothing to do with Jesus. Can these people not do research? When you try to tell people like this; that their traditions are actually based on Pagan beliefs they freak.
Not that I was trying to ruin the holiday for her, but it bothers me when some people try to push false information.

I honestly can't believe how someone could not know (especially in this day and age), that if you take the Jesus part out of Christmas; everything else is pagan, and that it used to be called Yule. Then again, these people believe in virgin births so....

I turned my FB account off. Five weeks clean now, and a lot more time on my hands and a lot less frustrated.

With the 'fake news' stations putting out unmitigated b#llsh!t, even trying to give someone real information now is many times pooh-poohed as 'fake news' if it doesn't fit into their delusional beliefs. I've stopped trying with the older folks, and I am aiming at the younger kids and twenty somethings to try to reverse their brainwashing before it sets too firmly.

Don't get angry; some people are lost and can't be redeemed. Put 'em down (figuratively, not literally) and move on.

you're strong! I have too much invested in FB...

I have to admit that there is a compulsion to "just check" on my account due to FOMO ... but so far I have just written it off. The real reason I had an account was to talk to my daughter, but reality is that I really don't talk to her a whole lot other than by text, so it is mostly a waste of time.

I'm convinced that most people don't know much about their own beliefs. They believe because they believe, because that's what they were taught as a child or it's what someone told them when they were going through a difficult time, and so they reject anything that threatens that cozy little nook called faith.

If they are happy about all these things why would they do research?

That’s what happens when you indoctrinate someone with the “truth” instead of teaching them to think critically.

A non-profit (much) like a christian church... what do I have to lose... cept maybe my soul.

I’m not so sure Santa is unrelated. He is a character based on Saint Nicholas, a Christian saint. The spirit of giving is the point of it all. Historic purity has little to do with it.

Yuk, fiction! Why do people write that awful stuff anyway?!

That’s a Christian for you. Remember, these are the same people who used to murder scientist and accuse people of witchcraft and then burn them at the stake. These are also the same people who Thank God and Jesus for everything, including mundane things that would have happened on its own, while kids are still in hospitals with cancer and hungry children are never fed. Most Christians are truly ignorant people, who’s belief system is known for stealing holidays and story ideas from previous religions. Christmas is a pagan holiday and it will always be. A holiday that the Christians stole and slapped their Jesus all over.

I tell all my christian friends that they need too quit worrying about putting their Christ back in a pagan celebration and work at putting him back in their religion or at least his teachings back in their religion.

so many just don't want the truth, I think. the truth may wreak havoc on everything they ever believed, and religion is so sacred to identity, more-so than political affiliation, I think. Cognitive dissonance can feel devastating when it challenges your entire identity.

Gods have died in the past and humanity survived, will be the same when this abrahamic god joins the dust bin of history.

perhaps, but it won't be in our lifetime, I doubt.

We celebrate this time as pagans. Big bonfire on the Dec. 21. Cut green and decorate with bright lights. If you look at Christianity, will find that they took over lots of pagan holidays and sites

my father's side of the family is Finnish, and there is a vast pagan population there-and we used to do big bonfires, though I don't think my dad ever knew that this is actually related to pagan practice. In addition, the Finns have sauna, which historically was similar in purpose to the sweat lodge, another earth-based tradition. I grew up with sauna too, though I doubt my family ever knew that connection either.

I live in the Bible Belt, and it seems like most of the religious in this part of the country are oblivious to how their religion came about, what the Bible says or how they get their morals. The do know they love Jesus though.

Yeah, the just “know”...no critical thinking.

It’s like we’re supposed to believe this crap simply because they do.. Actually, I envision more of them being challenged than ever before, so they’d best begin their homework 😉

You know what else doesn't have anything to do with Jesus?

Intolerance.

To bad they haven't figured that one out yet.
