James Clapper former Director of National Intelligence has been reserving comment until now and just said, about the last presidential election,: "...given the fact that it turned on less than 80,000 votes in three states...it exceeds logic and credulity that [the Russians] didn't affect the election."

Stunning! He is saying publicly, "as a private citizen" that he believes that the Russians influenced the outcome of our last presidential election.

It has been obvious to me that Trump is guilty of the myriad of things he is accused of. Also, it seemed likely to me that the Russian interference did change the election for Trump. But he is, first and foremost, a con man. So, with the aid of his Republican lackies, he lies, and distracts, and muddies the water so that many people will believe him.
And he uses that one page from his playbook continuously...the visceral attack on the character of anyone who speaks against him. How stupid must people be to keep falling for that? (Sorry, I digress from the original topic....can't help it)

I agree with you. I agree with you on all of the above. But to have Clapper say publicly that the election was thrown...where do we go from here?

@crazycurlz There will not be a do over of the election. Getting a Democratic House in the fall could result in impeacment proceedings. Probably won't go anywhere, but it's a shot. Besides voting, maybe the best we can do is educate as many people as possible....for elections, and also for polls. When public polls are taken, congressmen look at the results, and it may influence their votes (including on impeachment). So I normally answer national polls to get my opinion into the results. Beyond that...know that you are part of the community.....many millions of us..all struggling with this....and all sharing moral support for one another. Love

I think Clapper is hinting of the complexity of the influence on the election by Russia (some would call an attack) as Churchill stated in 1939:

*Churchill: I cannot forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key. That key is Russian national interest.*

I know. Only a moron would believe it had no influence on the election.

I will be getting his book tomorrow IF it is available at B&N. Heard the interview on NPR this eevening nd was quit impressed.

I was impressed too. It's awesome in an alarming way. What does this mean for our country if the last election was a sham?

He is a private citizen with an informed opinion exercising his freedom of speech after all. (probably many other private citizens think the same).

excerpt from the PBS interview transcript: Since I left the government, though, as a private citizen, it’s what I would call my informed opinion that, given the massive effort the Russians made, and the number of citizens that they touched, and the variety and the multidimensional aspects of what they did to influence opinion and affect the election, and given the fact that it turned on less than 80,000 votes in three states, to me, it just exceeds logic and credulity that they didn’t affect the election, and it’s my belief they actually turned it.
