I’m really turned off by all the jingoistic patriotism BS tied to sports. I usually feel too uncomfortable to bring it up, but patriotism is often just nationalism in disguise. As a patriot, I’m proud to live in a country that gives its citizens the right to protest by taking a knee during the national anthem, or burning a flag if they’re pissed off enough without fear of imprisonment. Making rules about standing during a song is oppression, not patriotism.

The NFL's stance is yet another example of how to divide this country even further. AS if that is even possible at this point! I have always been turned off by the patriotism that is attached to sports. It occurs all over the world.

I agree with you. We have lost sight of the principles this country was founded on.
