Ireland voted by a landslide to legalize abortion...The vote was not even close, with 66% voting in favor of legalization and 34% against. While this was a major win for personal liberties, most see it as a devastating defeat for the Catholic church in Ireland (worthy of a separate discussion).
This issue was decided via referendum after the high court in Ireland ruled earlier this year that the only right of unborn children is the right to be born.....all other constitutional rights take effect at birth.
Question: If the unborn have the 'right to be born,' how does this lead to legalized abortion in Ireland? I'm missing something......
A total contradiction but I see this everyday!
Is this trolling?
And what is the 'unborn'? Does it extend to eggs and sperm?
Doesn't matter if the wording is unclear. It's still progress. Long overdue.
Agreed. Since this is a relevant issue in the USA, I wanted to understand the intricacies and logic of the Irish court.
