Is the "like" icon the only one available here? Any reason why common "emojis" are not available?

You actually have to be careful not to create emojis accidentally. If you parenthesize a sentence -- put a period right before a closing paren -- it's apt to be interpreted as a shorthand emoji by the system. Many's the time I've artificially put a space in front of a closing paren to prevent this.

Thanks. I decided not to use emojis at all, until there is a more user-friendly way, as in FB.

@COGITOERGOSUM Most forum software, be it custom like this or a skinned version of some standard engine, seems to use straight text editing. I'm not sure why (I'm a server-side guy myself, so don't keep up with these things very closely) because there are quite a few off-the-shelf components that do full WYSIWYG editing including emoji insertion in edit mode. Don't know if it's overhead issues, browser compatibility issues, licensing costs or something else that is so off-putting that it's not common to see them used. Seems like an editor component like TinyMCE wouldn't be difficult to slide into place here, but that's easy for ME to say ... I don't actually have to deal with the devil in the details!

@mordant Great explanation. For me, is not a big deal, and I really like this Forum just the way it is. In fact, the only thing I would ask from the administrators is to do something to add more Spanish-speaking women to this Forum. What about an ad saying "Quiere conocer maravillosos hombres agnósticos? Then join Agnostic.com!"
