I suppose it's silly to buy into cancel-culture, but giving him any notoriety also seems wrong. I enjoy Wagner's work, but I recall his ugly bigotry when I hear it. It's tough... People are fallible and perverse. People are human, but evil should not be rewarded, even posthumously.

Does anyone have a preferred weapon of choice when out walking or hiking alone?

I used to carry a knife, decades ago. Bear spray may be a good idea. A gun is best, but heavy; I never carried one. I imagine permitting is problematic.

Pretty cool! Light polarization seems an odd goal. What circumstances would give rise to polarization and what would finding such polarization mean? Some light is circularly polarized. This could open whole new vistas as far as whether the intervening medium filtered particular polarizations, or whether particular phenomena generated polarizations, ie supernovas. I'd expect the light from x-ray jets to be polarized, and maybe solar flares?
