When someone asks what my religion is, I say none. Sometimes they ask how I can believe that there is no god, and I respond that I DON'T believe that there is no god, as I'm an Atheist. This typically confuses them and they stop bothering me. If they ask how the universe can exist without a god I explain the Zero Energy Universe Theory to them.

I answer honestly. "I have no religion".

I tell them I don't have any.
If they ask why not, I say it is because I am an adult and grew out of the need for an imaginary friend when I started infant school.

It doesn't come up. But if it did, I'd say that's a private matter. Particularly in a business setting I'd also point out that it's unprofessional to discuss personal matters on the company dime.

Many years ago my parents had a fly-in camp in northern Canada and my step father had a heart attack. When they got to the hospital they asked my mother for his religion and she said none. They wouldn't accept that, saying that they had to have a religion. so she said Buddhist, figuring that there probably wasn't a Buddhist within 500 miles of there so he wouldn't get bothered.

I'm British and no one ever asks. I will ask people from our local Asian community if they are fasting during ramadan because its good to show understanding. I have never been asked this in my life here, although I was often asked what church I went to when I lived in USA. I told them the truth.

I tend to shrug and say I'm sort of Buddhist and Christian-ish, making it clear I'm not serious about any of it.

I tell them the Truth. I don't have one. Why should I need to react with anything but honesty? Why seems to be so hard for the "poster" that needs to ask for what type of reaction? A former American president said... "If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember what you said".
