Politics is an important part of a democracy, we rely on parliament to govern our lives for the mutual benefit of everyone but alas, it doesn't ever work pit the way we want it to and it is, in the case of the UK at least, in part down to the God Squad Lobby, the Church of England more so than the Catholic church in so far as our head of state is also the head of the Church of England but also countries such as the U.S.A who have an allegiance to god written into their Pledge of Allegiance (a fucking stupid idea if ever there was one given that there is no such thing as God).
What I am getting at is that religion has too much influence over both domestic and foreign policy and I am asking if religion should have any influence politically or if politics should be secular?
I think that in the US religion has had a disastrous effect on politics. Many vote more along religious lines than anything sensible.
Mixing politics and religion is like mixing manure and ice cream. It probably doesn't do anything to improve the manure, and it definitely doesn't do the ice cream any good.
Religion, like politics, is part of the dialog necessary for democracy to succeed. The trick is to avoid a one party state or a theocracy.
fat chance of that happening in your life times. be real people
I live in Utah where people can get a DUI for 0.05 on the breathalyzer. I personally quit drinking almost 7 years ago, but that doesn’t mean everyone should. They outlawed porn and marijuana is still illegal. The largest building in Washington DC is the Mormon Temple. Be concerned.
We must be grateful then that across the Potomac from Washington DC is the Largest building in the world. The Pentagon.
Is it? I have been told differently. Perhaps the Temple is the most expensive. @GipsyOfNewSpain
I am no more concerned about Mormons than I am Muslims, Christians and Scientologists. They all have big buildings and lots of money. The Catholic church has a lot more money than Mormons and they are the biggest proponents of removing a person's right to body autonomy.
@DominicG79 Not that you got it wrong brother... across the Potomac is no longer Washington DC is state of Virginia.
Oh, gotcha! @GipsyOfNewSpain
@DominicG79 I thought that the Boeing factory in Seattle was the largest
What does Seattle have to do with Washington DC? Seattle is in Washington State. Opposite sides of the continent. @meister268
The Mormons don't have much of a presence here in the U.K, we are more likely to be pestered by the Jehovah's Witnesses but when they come knocking, as far as the J W's are concerned at any rate, because they are always polite, I politely send them on their way by saying that I am an atheist and I am telling the truth because I AM an atheist, if the Mormons ever turn up, the chances are that they will look something like the C.I.A and so I shall either poke them in the balls with a broom handle through the letter box or again, through the letter box, shout FUCK OFF at them.
Haha! @meister268
@DominicG79 The original post stated that the Pentagon was the largest building IN THE WORLD whereas the Boeing factory is much bigger.
No, it said Washington DC. @meister268
With regard to your comment in relation to a DUI at 0.5, I don't think anyone should drive with ANY alcohol in their system. I don't understand what 0.5 means because here in England we have a different way of measurement.
I quit drinking all together long before they lowered the limit from 0.08 to 0.05. @meister268
The Religious Right is destroying the States civil and LGBTQ rights.
Employing magical thinking where evidence-based thinking should be used is never good. NEVER!
I think of the money that has been spent on “bathroom bills”, “defense of marriage” laws, and similar policies just from legal challenges and how it could have gone to road repairs, schools, or back into the pockets of the taxpayers (liberal and conservative arguments here).
sigh Even in areas PREDOMINANTLY of one religion, there are always dissenters.
Probably quiet, for fear of execution, but trust me, we're there.
In my humble opinion, there is NEVER room for religion in politics. Again though, that's my opinion.
Like in the deep south where the word of JESUS rules and where the people of Alabama shoot holes in road signs.
is the pope in the vatican?
Is the bear Catholic? Does the Pope shit in the woods?
@meister268 I think the pope don't need to shit on the woods because every catholic swears the pope's shit don't stink. About the bear isn't suppose to be communist?
@GipsyOfNewSpain LMFAO, you are a funny man, I almost pissed myself reading your comment.
Is the bear Catholic?
Does the Pope shit in the woods?
