What silly superstitions do you find yourself doing/following even though you know they are just silly superstitions?
I have three.
I say "knock on wood" or "wish me luck" even when I know luck has nothing to do with it.
I won't flip a calendar early. I know it won't cause anything bad to happen but I still won't do it.
Sports superstitions. If my team wins, I have to wear the same outfit the next time. I know it has nothing to do with it but I must have my "lucky" earrings on for every game.
I worked on a fishing trawler for some time . No whistling ( whistle up the wind = bad weather . No talking about rabbits
No sharpening knives before shooting the nets
No tying the cod ends before 1st shoot
My favourite .... No going to sea if you saw a nun or a priest before casting off. More time in the pub !
I personally never submit to any superstitions. However, When I was much younger my father told me a story about my grandfather. My grandfather, grandmother and their four sons were out all day and evening doing something( don't know what). They were all very tiered. They owned a cat. The cat started washing itself and my grandfather threw the cat out of the house. Apparently when a cat washes itself it means your going to have company. I can only offer empathy to the cat.
I don't know if it is superstition or common sense but if I have had to return into the house having forgotten something like my wallet or phone, before re-exiting I always count to ten to prevent the haste that causes less speed and to refocuss on what is needed now rather than cuss my prior aberration.
True life story... how I intended to be. My son was a member of the Air Force Honor Guard in Las Vegas. In 2012 he was in the Pacquiao Marquez 4 Fight. He carried and displayed the Mexican Flag into the Ring. The dressing room designated for the Honor Guard was given to rapper 50cent and his entourage so my son ended getting dressed on Manny Pacquiao dressing room, he took pictures with Pacquiao's robe that he displayed to the ring. So to me the reason Pacquiao that never officially lost before or never even knocked down by Marquez was that My son took pacquiao mojo from the robe and passed to the Mexican flag... Marquez took the Mojo from the Mexican flag.... so the end result was Marquez Knocking Out Pacquiao in one of Boxing's great and most devastating knockouts this century if not in history. My superstition story about a sport. This is the whole fight. You can see good image of my son during the american anthem.
