QUESTION This Man Was Denied Life-Saving Treatment, So He Went to His Insurance Company to Find Out Why

I hear every day how people are waiting on approval from their insurance company even for minor stuff. This one is really tragic and nearly criminal IMHO.

The insurance industry in America is exactly how he described it.
They're only interested in their bottom line, so fuck you and your illness.

Just remember, if your insurance company refuses a treatment you can request the record of who reviewed the request. If there is no MD signature on it you can appeal and likely win. Most first round denials are done by lowly clerks who have an algorithm to go by.

On the other side of the coin, my nephew worked for Blue Cross-Blue Shield and he talked about the "1/4 million-dollar babies" who came through the system. Invariably, at the end of any fiscal quarter, hospitals would have still-born babies for whom they would provide Above & Beyond treatments that miraculously balanced their budgets. He said it was predictable, incredibly hard on those parents because it built up hope, and Blue Cross could not stop the practice - they just had to write the checks.
