It is clear that Einstein rejected the God of the Bible. He made conflicting statements about his atheism.

I’m not sure where the above quote came from or at which stage of his life Einstein wrote that.

IMO it is not important whether or not Einstein labeled himself as an atheist. All that matters to me is that he was deeply aware of the grandeur and mysteries of nature and he had the courage to say that he was ignorant about its ultimate nature.

I have a book of talks he gave over the years to various groups, and it's a fascinating read.
