Can we just eliminate the phrase " our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families." Every time I hear it, it just sounds so trite and phony.

It is what people say when they don't want to expend any actual effort to help someone, but still want to appear like a good person.

Yes I cringe every time I hear that. It's the official response for every organisation. 'Sorry' has become meaningless and insincere as well
