The way I read this we are on the whim of the cosmic continuum.

Of the 7.7 billion people on earth right now.
And the number of homes on earth to house them.
How does that homeowner feel being singled out by that meteor?

From what I've read the next meteor could arrive at any time, and it could be fatal for most of the earth. It was likely that a meteor caused the extinction of the dinosaurs.

@josh_is_exciting From what I've recently read, just the meteor entering the atmosphere can be traumatic for the planet. It all depends on the size. The one that exterminated the dinosaurs was big. I just finished reading A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. Fascinating book.
