I think you mean "to keep us from getting too far off course." We are already off course and will need significant correction when the next president takes office.
I hope the record stays that way.

Me too!
The federal governments conviction rate as a whole is over 95%. The feds don't take things to trial unless they know they are going to win. This isn't like your local elected officials who go to trial with flimsy evidence, because of public pressure or political pressure, because of outrage or just needing numbers to impress voters.
