My understanding was that some chimps/apes could do limited "word stringing", tho it wasn't universal. Not an expert so I won't adhere to that. Animals have different senses & intelligence from humans, no doubt. But if one has had pets, or even observed them in the wild, one has to come to the conclusion that many, many types of animals are sentient. Just as with humans, different doesn't by any means indicate inferiority, just difference.

Extremely limited, and only in contextual settings, they never exhibited grammar beyond a chance level.
