Acupuncture. Any thoughts about it?

My sister is studying to be a veterinarian and she is really into acupuncture, calling it a viable treatment in both humans and animals alike. I looked at one of her textbooks once on the subject and it looked new ageish. I'm always the one to question it as being viable because every time I try to find any answer there appears to be lots of uncertainty, or no consensus for or against it. I'm not sure if she's back on the woo-woo train, because she thinks astrology is true, fortune-tellers aren't charlatans, and dreams carry some supernatural importance.

I have to honestly say I have a friend who suffered for many years with extreme migraine headaches. Doctors were quick to prescribe plenty of strong drugs to the point she couldn't work or function. She decided as a last resort to seek out an acupuncturist and after a few short months of going regularly, twice a week, then once a week, she now seldom gets migraine headaches. She had even tried allergy doctors but no one knew how to help her, so I think some people can benefit from this. Also, chiropractors have helped me with lower back issues when other doctors were too lazy to try and help. If it doesn't involve writing on that little prescription pad, you can forget it. What year are we in?

Although I have no experience with acupuncture and I have no Professional Knowledge of it I have serious thoughts about acupuncture. Really serious thoughts! I believe, personally, the acupuncture is found out to science! And it really works! Through centuries if not more of Sirius expert examinations of the body in the nervous system. Not through what's been told by religious leaders of What God Says.

Just as the old Catholics believe that I glasses were the devil's work. They called it the devil's work because they did not understand it! They refuse to see the science of it! So I believe that acupuncture, formed from science, has absolutely nothing wrong with it!

Sorry if I'm rambling....

It is BS. It is a very elaborate placebo. Every properly controlled study comes to the same null result.

Nothing personal, but that was a dumb ass remark!

I'll remember you think so.

Tell me how it is wrong. Show me a well controlled study that shows a positive result. This is something I've spent a lot of time looking into. Please amaze me.

I appreciate all the comments, still appears to be mixed results. I don't doubt the sincerity of folks that tried it, but I think there many more studies to be done to find more empirical evidence vs anecdotes. I was not asserting that it was bunk in my post, only that i'm skeptical about it and that it may be questionable due to my sister's history, that's all. But did not let this bias interfere with my conclusion. I'm also well aware that my sister has very good intentions. I just ask that we remain civil and not turn this into a facebook post, god forbid (lol). Practically everyone has been civil and I appreciate this more than you know 😀.

It works, alongside of herbal med, exercise and eating well.

Many years ago Mrs Thatcher when she was PM, had an operation on her hand using acupuncture as an anesthetic. Legend has it at the same time all around the country thousands of wax dolls writhed in agony.
