Evolution! And atheism...

So, you don't have to believe in evolution to be an atheist, but i think most atheists do believe in evolution. I believe in it! Is there an atheist here who does not believe in evolution? Just curious...

One of my favorite T-shirts reads "Fine, I evolved. You didn't".

evolution seems most sensible, as my agnosticism...

One does not "believe" in evolution, or any other theory. The theory of evolution through natural selection is simply an explanation of how natural processes work. So far, it is the only one that does a good job of both explaining observed phenomena and of predicting future events. Another theory may appear that works even better, at which point thinking folks may have to revise their opinions. As "atheists" adopt a similar line of reasoning in their rejection of the theory that there is an anthropomorphic deity - lack of evidence or predictability - it seems unlikely that someone who rejects deity could also reject the logic of evolutionary theory. This would be cognitive dissonance at a massive level.

Most are thinking people

so what do you think the opposite of evolution theory is? Just curious as to why this is even a plausible question...

Theories don't have opposites, though that is what the creationists would like us believe. Theories stand on their own merits as to how well they explain observation. Some do this better than others, but a theory does not have to be able to explain everything to be useful.

@Arouet I was just wondering what might be used to explain things if not evolution...you answered it indirectly...creationism...are there more theories in between? I was just wondering what the intended outcome the poster was expecting to ask the question...

@thinktwice Aliens ! I don't believe in aliens playing with our dna,,,, but I've met one atheist who does... I'm just curious to find out how many theories there are.. ps,,, i love Darwin!

@Coffeeman I hope you don't listen to such nonsense...it is a waste of brain cells...lol

I don't think you'll get a single atheist replying he or she doesn't accept evolution is true.

If you do, that person is lying... either about believing evolution is false, or the part about being an atheist.

That's a great answer! Thank you for your reply!

@Coffeeman

I'd like to clarify that they these people do exist. I just haven't come across any on this site.

There are atheists who do believe evolution is "just a theory." As you'll find with the flat earth society, there are always people who believe in conspiracy theories or those who provide arguments from ignorance for many things (and it's not due to their religious beliefs). If they can't fathom, personally, how something can be true, then the scientific findings are irrelevant to them.

@Athena Right on! I've known one atheist who believed that humans were made by aliens! Hehehe, I'll stick with evolution!
