The problem is as old as law enforcement itself. Too many (certainly not all) people who opt in to the profession, whether local cop, state police, or ICE agent, are sociopaths whose primary (indeed ONLY) goal is to be in a situation of absolute power over the helpless. Abuse of the weak, especially those who are labeled “criminals,” has been going on for centuries. Its only been in the last 30 years or so that the wide availability of video cameras has started to reveal the horrors of giving the criminally insane a gun and a badge.
