What is more reprehensible - A politician for votes who preaches idiotic beliefs but doesn't believe them or one who preaches idiotic beliefs because they believe them?

The most reprehensible is the lack of moral honesty or the hypocrisy.. As for the other, "true believers" are dangerous and must be discredited.

The devil you know. The former would be hard to tell. So, pragmatically... ya know.

That’s tough, we are all so used to hypocrites, it’s almost expected behavior from certain factions of the population. More often than not it’s falsely making claims of “Christian” beliefs and.pseudo moral superiority. It’s relatively easy to see them as frauds. When a politician actually believes the bullshit they spew it’s an indictment of how pathetic our education system is and how the long term effects can disease an electorate.

Hard not to say they are equally corrosive to society.

The result is typically indistinguishable, from what I can tell. The charlatan is as committed to his lie as the devotee is to his conviction and takes similar actions.
