I haven’t seen many posts on here that connect our legal systems and religion. I am about to finish a law degree and am focusing on 1st Amendment court cases that have addressed the separation of church and state. Is anyone else interested in how legal systems approach religions and religious tolerance? What does it look like in your country?

US Sup Ct has been pushing English Common Law and Vatican rights of "discovery" back to 1450....and what you call the 1st AMENDMENT is actually BILL of RIGHTS # 3....intended to expand Article 6 right to be free from "religious test for ANY office or public trust under these United States."....our 12 Bill of Rights were additional details defining precisely how Congress shall be convened and how the gangsters would be paid for their jobs....the 2nd AMENDMENT clearly states only one pay raise after these thieves vote themselves an increase which means only in the odd year 1993 95 97 99 01 to this year a cost of living increase is only legal having won the Presidential signature last year....the vicious criminals setting upon the US Sup Ct have falsely ruled a cola is not a pay raise violating the now 27th AMENDMENT sent to the states in 1789 ratified 1992

In order of importance our 12 Bill of Rights are 1st: 50 thousand persons per Congressional DISTRICT needs 27 more states for ratification 2nd money for Congressmembers 3rd disestablishment of theocracy = freedom from religion, free non violent exercise speech press assembly & petition for redress

Yes I think many would be interested to see posts. Being in the UK which is very different, it is always of interest to hear about all aspects of the other side of the pond.

In the UK there is an embedded state religion. The church of England (C of E) and the church of Scotland. As well as having representatives in the house of lords the C of E & C of S also have ecclesiastic courts, as enshrined in Magna Carta. Where miscreants in the clergy may be tried for such crimes as adultery. Some provision has been made in law for other religions. An exception for Sikhs in wearing motorcycle helmets etc. Also, there is a provision to defer to Judaic courts in some property cases. But an attempt to the same in regard to sharia law created such a media backlash that it was dropped.
In regard to freedom of speech, the UK was forced to repeal its blasphemous libel laws. These had not been used for centuries until a case was successfully brought against a magazine "Gay news" in the 1980s. It published a poem about Christ fantasizing about gay sex on the cross. The subsequent case drove the publication out of business. However, religious leaders did not look so smug when the Salmond Rushdie "Satanic Verses" affair broke out. Muslim clerics put forward the case that what was sauce for the goose... and that the law should be even-handed.
In regard to discrimination on religious grounds eg. refusal to make a gay wedding cake or let a room. The courts have sided against religious beliefs If it means discriminating against someone due to their sexual orientation. This may be because they fear being overturned in the Europian court of human rights.

In the U.S., the dominant religions are the best fed, best clothed, etc. and dissenters naturally err because their culture is different. In many spheres they really only want one culture, and that is the culture that was already established, that is being lead by inclinations, nonsense, gibberish, coercion , environmental threats, etc. ...it's a mess and even those in the highest positions are awash in it. They literally contend with powers who believe that improvements to organizations are not doable, or they will not work. It's a perfect example of over-extension of power. -D.Z.
