He's given up appealing to independents, he knows his rabid base are the main ones who will vote for him and he doesn't care. He believes anything that fires them up is a good thing.

What he doesn't understand is that this fires up the opposition to him as well.

I think in his fantasies, his supporters will stage a revolution for him even if he does lose the election.
