Are you Anne Ezpanosa? If so we've already met and you've decided we're not compatible because I can't accept the faiths of atheism and agnosticism anymore than I can accept the faiths of Christianity, Judaism and Islam, right? That's why I pick a mainline Christian church to be a part of instead of a wannabe church like UU.
We both live in Columbia SC. I'm a theological noncognitivist which is even 'worse' than an atheist. I live just off Devine Street between Dreher High School and Beltline Blvd. Approximately what part of Columbia do you live?
Thanks for replying! I live in Forest Acres. I'm Unitarian. Attend the Unitarian Fellowship of Columbia in Shandon. We are a bunch of independent free thinkers. Have you ever been there?
@maximillian I used to go to the Unitarian Church, many years ago. But I go to Shandon United Methodist Church to sing in the choir, because I enjoy it. I don't tell them I can't be a Christian. I fake it. I take communion, bow my head in prayer and kneel at the altar, say the Apostle's Creed and the Lord's Prayer, like all the "good Christians" do. We used to have a paid singer (a ringer, as we call them) who was a student at USC in our choir named "Maximillian" who also played bassoon.
Hey, want to meet me? I'd like to meet you. I'm a young 80, a healthy widower, and a theological noncognitivist. That means that I don't know of any reason to believe that Christians, Jews, or Muslims have defined any deity to believe in but only think they have. Therefore they haven't defined any deity for atheists to disbelieve in, or for agnostics to withhold any belief in. Because I enjoy singing, I joined a Methodist church. I go every Sunday and pretend to be a Christian, just to get to sing in the choir. I take communion, kneel in prayer, recite the creed, and sing all the hymns and anthems. They're nice people and I enjoy associating with them. A church is a great social club. The Methodist Church is not fundamental. They don't go around talking "God" and "Jesus"-talk. -- Edwin
