There does seem to be an issue with mileage on the search bit. Glasgow is not less than 80 km from the Isle of Wight, it really isn't but it's just one of those things.
Whenever I travel to Glasgow (mother's birthplace) the rail journey takes two and a half hours, thirty minutes of which is taken up by waiting for a main line connection at Lancaster. I have many happy memories of times spent as a youngster with relatives in Glasgow and the names of roads and districts still hold a magical appeal for me. My grandfather, a retired postman, lived in a 'single end' in Taylor Street, Townhead (Toon heid!) but it was a 'posh' one with its own toilet and a bedroom - although I preferred the bed set inside the hole in the wall in the living room cum kitchen with its black lead grate and coal fire, the smell of his pipe tobacco and the methodical tick tock of the pendulum wall clock. Gosh, for a moment I was there in that room! Of course, it's all been demolished now in the name of urban development. Thanks for your message,ipdg77.
Places listed where?
In Britain. Americans dominate this site - I have absolutely no problems with that because everyone is so pleasantly intelligent (can't one of you stand for the presidency? A sane, compassionate POTUS? Wow, we could create paradise on Earth instead of the regular descents into Hell) But I digress! I am really enjoying my time on this site; I like the members, their civility, humanity and open honesty. A rare find indeed! But I'd also like to converse with fellow Brits, especially those who are able to match the qualities of the American members. And, yes, I know there are Australian members and others from different countries that I have not mentioned - this site promotes friendship and harmony and this is reflected in members' postings - enormously appreciated.
@Alfoctopus I’ve just never seen a geographical list here.
@Annaleda It's not geographical as such, it's just under the heading 'Members who are near you'.
