The Shape of Water .....Overrated Oscar Winner??

So I just saw the Shape of Water and I'm not getting it. I generally like Del Torro's work big fan of Hellboy and Pan's Labirinth but this effort is just not doing anything for me. Its a love story ? Between a woman and a fish?

Its full of half baked characters with no purpose but to serve a really predictable and lazy plotline. The musical references/sequences do nothing for me but then I've never been a fan of musicals imho the most useless movie genre in history. It was the same for me when LA LA Land won.

What is it with hollywood these days? Is the rise of high production value episodic story arc TV finally spelling the end for them and now they are trotting out bad genre movie after bad genre movie like a desperate fisherman who won't believe the fish have moved on??

I guess not so they made a movie about one falling in love.... god save me from this crap .... oh ...right 😉

I never saw this movie. Judging from the trailer, I decided not to see it with an acquaintance who wanted to see it. From more scences flashed online and on TV, I'm glad I didn't pay to see it. The "fish" and the woman danced? There was a "love" scene in the water? Okay, maybe it's an analogy for human prejudice. I get that. I'm still happy to say I didn't spend my money on it.

Agreed, I don't know how this won best picture. I much preferred I, Tonya. (which won for best supporting actress, at least.)

Best movie i've seen this year was on Netflix

I loved it. Sally Hawkins was great and at least Hollywood found other work for the creature from the black lagoon. Outside of eating cats he could actually heal people.

I thought it looked ridiculous and have no desire to see it. I watched "Lincoln" the other night - thought it was okay but certainly not as good as it was made out to be.

Found Lincoln really dry and slow, like so many bio-pics overrated again. Feeling the same about 'Darkest Hour' and 'Dunkirk too

@pictomaniac Yes it was, I was disappointed. I actually fell asleep.

I loved it. The colors/cinematography, the acting... And I grew up on musicals. They are pure escapeism... Nothing wrong with that. 🙂
