Since 2006, I have volunteered as a college mentor. I help first generation students (children of immigrants) apply for college and scholarships.
My goal is to apply for 30 scholarships. It's a numbers game. One difficult, 12-page application (eight essays), Washington Apple Education Foundation, makes Daniela eligible for all 200 of their scholarships. She submitted it three days before the deadline.
So, Daniela has actually applied for 236 scholarships. She wants to become a physical therapist or teacher.
Glad I get students to complete scholarship applications ahead of the deadline. Wenatchee Schools will close from March 17 to April 24 or until further notice.
Since volunteers and visitors are banned from school buildings, this week Daniela and I completed three scholarship applications at my home. Due April 1.
Scholarship Award night is in May at the high school. Fingers crossed that it won't be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

So did D get a scholarship? Keep us posted!
You do good work.
Scholarship Award Night is in May. Daniela will find out how much money she won then.
So far, Daniela has won:
$6,195 - Federal Application for Student Financial Aid (FASFA).
$1,000 - Washington State Univ. Embracing Diversity scholarship.
FAFSA is based on the parents' and student's income, and number of household members. All students can apply for it annuall up to age 26.
Trump cut FAFSA Pell Grants so it's a smaller pot of money. I had Daniela apply on Oct. 1, the day it opened. First come, first served.
Daniela's parents are low income. She got the highest amount: $6,195.
Very funny.
You said May in the op.. I should have read more carefully!
Daniela is lucky to have you in her court. Good luck to you both.
Awww, proud and precious moment - Thank you for all that you do!
This is the most impressive act I have ever heard of. If there are angles you are certainly one of them. I do not know how else to say this.
@dalfvictor
Thank you!
You are calling me an angel?
My mother laughingly called me "You little shit." That's more accurate.
Being a college mentor is the most rewarding volunteer work I have done. As a Democrat, I have been volunteering since age 23.
@LiterateHiker Sometimes being a little shit and an angel are totally compatible. I did not notice the misspelling until now. I do now the difference between an angel and an angle.
Best part of you is this.
Thank you!
