'Holy days': holidays that have been created for - or stolen by - religiosity.

What do you do to get around it?

Myself, I tend to go bush. I can't stand the commercialism just as much if not more than the beliefs that drive those days.

People go FREAKIN' NUTS! at Christmas!

So I either work or make sure I've disappeared myself. Nothing wrong with sharing a beverage with a few random people in a backcountry hut. I'll celebrate 'fellowship' for want of a better word (one usually used by churches), but the religiosity of it I want nothing to do with.

However, I am a compassionate person. So if someone was hurting, and wanted me to go to church with them, I would.

Philanthropically, I'm interested in the study of religions and philosophies.

So I've been to many churches, a few shrines, mosques, etc.

What I don't understand, for any of them, is the EMPHASIS put on any given day.

I mean, if you follow the Jewish calendar, they have some flippin' ceremony or festival or other significant day every second week, it seems! πŸ˜€

So yeah, I'm curious as to how others deal with it (I noticed that a lot of you are talking about Thanksgiving).

Personally, I reckon "y'all" can be grateful that nutjob hasn't gotten your country blown up yet!

(Incidentally, NO ONE wants that). None of us. Anywhere on Earth.

Only two childish dropkicks with massive, petulant egos, who happen to have a 'football' or button to push, who even consider it.

Shit, when did this get political? πŸ˜€ Sorry, back to the original query..... πŸ™‚

I get through it by spending a lot of time on my yoga matand weed. I don’t really celebrate any holidays with the exception of holidays for social justice. Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Labor Day, Earth Day. I pay respect but don’t celebrate. I even prefer being alone on my Birthday.

I like the idea of redefining the words. If they could add the definition of ethnic to the word race when it's original meaning was a competition, strong rapid current, then I think I can do the same with Christmas, Easter, and Holiday.

Christmas is a winter holiday break to gather with family tell fairytales about Santa and Rudolf and magical snowman named Frosty. Eat, drink, and be merry.

Easter is a spring long weekend where a magical bunny hides eggs and the kids get chocolate.

Holiday is a paid break from work to spend time with loved ones or go to the bush.

The more diverse we can make the words the less association they have with a specific religion. I don't avoid them, I play with them, more fun that way. πŸ˜‰

P.S. The two bullies are posturing, neither one wants death so we have a stalemate. It'll die down if the US gets a new pres.
