Anyone can be prejudiced, by racism is an institutional system that privileges one group and discriminates against minorities in virtually all walks of life. So no, racism only goes one way.

Incorrect.

rac·ism
ˈrāˌsizəm/Submit
noun
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
"a program to combat racism"
synonyms: racial discrimination, racialism, racial prejudice, xenophobia, chauvinism, bigotry, casteism
"Aborigines are the main victims of racism in Australia"
the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
noun: racism

@Melbates Semantics. Call it what you will but America is a white man's world, and blacks are still screwed at almost every level.

@Druvius The true definition is not semantics. Racism isn't JUST White's hate any colored person. Anyone who discriminates based on a person's skin color is racist. Period.

Not denying that. But, POC's do not get an automatic pass on their behavior because of what the majority has done to them.

@Melbates So you're a racist, got it.

@Druvius oh, jeez. rolls eyes Exactly my point. Anyone who contradicts the idea that POC's are the only one's to suffer racism is immediately labeled a racist. Did you even read the link? Tell me exactly what I did in that conversation which was racist?

@Druvius just dawned on me that, no, you did not read the post. The OP is about racism in the atheist community. One of the commenters arguing with me flatout states white people are born racist. So, guess what? You're racist, too!! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

ugh. No thanks.

What did I do wrong to get hit like that?

@Melbates Sorry. That wasn't meant to be a "hit." I just get uncomfortable talking about he subject. Which is probably why I should be discussing it.

@phil21 no, not you. Them. You didn't hit me. I'm asking what I did for the people who attacked me to hit me like that?

@Melbates Ugh. I'm sorry, Mel. My theory has always been "People can be assholes." White people, gay people, Mexican people, weather forecasters, teachers, bus drivers, that guy over there doing something in front of the building. But I try not to attach anything to it other than jerkiness. I know I am sometimes wrong, that people do feel a certain away toward "different" people.

Yes indeed it does. Prejudice is in all human societies as is ethnocentrism. We humans are afraid of the "other". Still I feel that we have made progress in America to overcome this fear and to be more accepting of differences. I was a child in the 50s and believe me on a personal level people are much more open minded.

I just feel like sometimes society gives POC's a pass on their behavior. Maybe out of guilt for the hell white man wrought. But, shit! What did I do wrong in that post????
